📖 About the university
Lanzhou Institute of Information Science and Technology is a private undergraduate institution in Lanzhou, the capital of Gansu. It was founded in 2002 as the College of Technology and Engineering of Lanzhou University of Technology, the independent college of one of the northwest's principal engineering universities, and it taught bachelor programmes on the strength of that parent's mechanical, electrical and materials faculties for nearly twenty years. In 2021 the Ministry of Education approved its conversion into a free-standing private institution under the present name. Despite the information-technology emphasis of the new name, the school's backbone remains classic engineering in the parent's mould: mechanical design, manufacturing and automation, electrical engineering and automation, materials-related tracks and computer science are the flagship programmes, with newer majors in data science, robotics and intelligent manufacturing layered on top and economics, management and design broadening the catalogue. The school pitches itself as an engineer-training college for Gansu's equipment-manufacturing, energy and petrochemical industries, in a province where such applied undergraduate places remain scarce relative to demand. Teaching is in Chinese and enrolment is domestic.

🌆 About Lanzhou
Lanzhou is the capital of Gansu province and a historic city on the ancient Silk Road, stretched narrowly along the banks of the Yellow River. With a metropolitan population of around four million, it is northwest China's key transport and industrial gateway toward Central Asia. The climate is cold semi-arid, with warm, dry summers and cold, dry winters and relatively little rainfall. Landmarks include the Yellow River waterfront, the iron Zhongshan Bridge, White Pagoda Mountain overlooking the city, and the traditional waterwheel park. Lanzhou is nationally famous for its hand-pulled beef noodles, and its sizeable Hui Muslim community means halal food and mosques are easy to find. A new metro line, Zhongchuan International Airport, and high-speed rail connect it toward Xi'an, Xining, and Urumqi. For an international student, and especially a Muslim one, Lanzhou offers low living costs, a welcoming halal food culture, and a strong sense of Silk Road history.
