The University of Jinan is a comprehensive public university in the Shandong capital, jointly built by the province and the Ministry of Education. Formed by the merger of several institutions with a history going back to 1948, it is especially strong in materials science, chemistry and chemical engineering, with cement and building-materials research a historic specialty. The university spans engineering, science, medicine, management, law and the arts, and its materials and chemistry fields rank among the world's most-cited.
