Peking Union Medical College (PUMC), founded in 1917 with support from the Rockefeller Foundation, is China's premier institution for medical education and research. It pioneered eight-year clinical medical education and modern higher nursing education in China. Since 1957 it has operated jointly with the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, the country's highest medical research body.
