📖 About the university

Jishou University is the main comprehensive university of the mountainous Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in western Hunan, founded in 1958. It has a distinctive strength in ethnology and the study of the Tujia, Miao and other ethnic minorities of the region, as well as in ecology and the sustainable use of mountain biological resources. The university plays a key role in educating and developing this less-developed but culturally rich part of Hunan, and the celebrated writer Shen Congwen's homeland of Fenghuang lies nearby. Its academic breadth covers the humanities, science, engineering, medicine, economics and the arts. International students are welcomed for Chinese-language study and degrees.
