📖 About the university

Guangxi Vocational and Technical University traces its origins to the Guangxi Labour University, founded in 1965, which subsequently operated as the Guangxi Agricultural College's Tropical Crops Branch at undergraduate level, then as the Guangxi Farm Reclamation Workers' University and the Guangxi Agro-Industrial-Commercial Vocational University, before being restructured in March 1998, with approval from the Ministry of Education and the regional government, into the Guangxi Vocational and Technical College, one of the region's first independently reorganised public higher-vocational colleges. The college passed national acceptance as a 'National Demonstrative Backbone Higher Vocational College' in 2014, and in June 2026 the Ministry of Education approved its upgrade to bachelor's level as Guangxi Vocational and Technical University, with a planned full-time enrolment scale of around 12,000 students. The university is based in Nanning, the capital of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and a major gateway city linking China with Vietnam and the wider ASEAN region. Before its upgrade, the college was known for its 'Chinese Language Plus Vocational Skills' initiative, an outreach programme that combined Mandarin instruction with technical training for learners from Southeast Asia, reflecting Guangxi's role as a bridge between China and its southern neighbours. With more than six decades of history rooted in agricultural and industrial-commercial training, the university's programmes are expected to continue this applied, multidisciplinary character as it develops its bachelor's-level curriculum. As a newly promoted vocational undergraduate institution, it sits outside the Project 985/211 and Double First-Class categories, focusing instead on practical technical education tied to Guangxi's regional economy. The university mainly serves Chinese students, though its Southeast-Asia-facing 'Chinese Plus Skills' tradition suggests it may be one of the more internationally engaged institutions among its 2026 peer cohort, even though it does not yet run a formal degree-track international-admissions programme.
