📖 About the university

Dalian Medical University is a public medical university in the Lüshunkou district of Dalian, Liaoning province, and it traces its history to Guandong Medical College, founded in 1947. That college was absorbed into Dalian University, became the independent Dalian Medical College in 1950, was moved in 1969 to Zunyi in Guizhou where it was reorganised as Zunyi Medical College, was re-established on its original Dalian site in 1978, and took its present name in 1994. In October 2007 the whole institution moved to a new campus on the western stretch of Lüshun South Road, covering about 1.51 million square metres with roughly 532,000 square metres of buildings and a library of some 2.54 million printed volumes. Teaching is organised in 23 teaching and research units — among them the school of basic medical sciences, the first, second and third clinical colleges, and the schools of stomatology, public health, pharmacy, nursing, laboratory medicine, medical imaging, integrated Chinese and Western medicine, humanities and social sciences and art — supported by 21 affiliated hospitals and 23 undergraduate programmes. Academic strength rests on one national key discipline, four Liaoning first-class construction disciplines and four Liaoning first-class characteristic disciplines, with two subject areas inside the global top one per cent of ESI; the university holds four postdoctoral research stations, four first-level doctoral authorisation points and eleven first-level master's authorisation points, and it is one of the institutions selected for Liaoning's key first-class university construction programme. Staff and medical personnel number close to 9,000, including some 900 full professors and more than 1,000 associate professors, five Chang Jiang Scholars appointed under the Ministry of Education programme and four winners of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. International students are central to the university's profile: its College of International Education launched an English-medium MBBS in 2004, in June 2007 the Ministry of Education named it one of the first thirty institutions authorised to run degree programmes in English for international students, roughly 1,200 to 1,300 foreign students are enrolled at any time, and the college administers Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC) places.

🌆 About Dalian

Dalian is a major port and coastal resort city on the tip of the Liaodong Peninsula in Liaoning province. With a metropolitan population of around seven million, it enjoys a reputation as one of northern China's cleanest and most pleasant seaside cities. Thanks to its coastal setting, the climate is temperate and milder than the interior, with cool summers and cold but moderate, breezy winters. Highlights include the vast Xinghai Square, the scenic Binhai coastal drive, Tiger Beach Ocean Park, and pockets of Russian and Japanese colonial architecture. As a seaside city, Dalian is celebrated for its fresh seafood, from braised sea cucumber to grilled clams and seafood dumplings. A modern metro and tram network, Zhoushuizi International Airport, and high-speed rail link it to Shenyang and beyond. For an international student, Dalian offers sea breezes, a relaxed atmosphere, well-regarded universities, and a comfortable pace of life.
