The University of South China in Hengyang, Hunan, is a distinctive public university jointly built by the province, the National Nuclear Corporation and the National Health Commission. It is one of very few universities in China with deep expertise in both nuclear science and technology and clinical medicine, reflecting its origins in the nuclear-industry and medical colleges that merged to form it in 2000. Its nuclear engineering, radiation protection and medical programs are nationally recognized, and it runs several large affiliated hospitals that serve southern Hunan. The university enrolls a large number of students, including international medical students studying MBBS in English.
