📖 About the university

Shaanxi Polytechnic University is a full-time public vocational-technology university located in Xianyang, Shaanxi, sponsored by the provincial government. The institution was established in 1999 by upgrading the Xianyang Machinery Manufacturing School, a national key secondary vocational school founded in 1950, and in 2010 it merged with Shaanxi Textile and Garment Vocational and Technical College before being elevated to undergraduate vocational-university status under its present name. In 2011 it became one of China's roughly one hundred national demonstrative higher-vocational colleges, and it is organised into sixteen teaching units, among them the Schools of Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Engineering, Aviation Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Chemical, Textile and Garment Engineering, Civil Engineering, Finance and Tourism, and Business and Circulation. The university is nationally recognised for its strengths in materials forming and control, mechanical manufacturing and automation, and numerical-control technology, reflecting a founding mission of training engineers for the machinery industry. It has long enrolled a large body of students and maintained close cooperation with manufacturing enterprises across Shaanxi and the wider northwest. As an applied vocational university it enrols primarily domestic students and does not currently advertise a dedicated Chinese-language pathway for international applicants.

Xianyang is an ancient city in central Shaanxi immediately northwest of Xi'an, once the capital of the Qin dynasty and today part of the Xi'an-Xianyang metropolitan area, home to the region's main international airport. Shaanxi Polytechnic University sits in this historic yet industrialising city on the Guanzhong Plain, close to one of northwestern China's largest urban and manufacturing clusters.
