📖 About the university

Jiangxi Vocational and Technical University was founded in 1960 as the Jiujiang Shipbuilding Industry School, a specialised institution that trained shipbuilding technicians under successive national machine-building ministries and later the China State Shipbuilding Corporation before being placed under the Jiangxi provincial government in 1999 and renamed Jiujiang Vocational and Technical College. In June 2024 the Ministry of Education approved its upgrade to bachelor's level under the name Jiangxi Vocational and Technical University, reflecting its shipbuilding-industry heritage while broadening its scope across the province. The university occupies two campuses in the Yangtze River port city of Jiujiang, the Shili campus and the Lianxi campus, both in Jiujiang's Lianxi district. It comprises eight secondary colleges and four teaching departments offering 58 bachelor's and higher-vocational programmes, including the School of Mechanical Engineering, the School of Electrical Engineering, the School of Naval Architecture Engineering, the School of Automotive Engineering, the School of Information Engineering and the School of Accounting and Finance. Its naval-architecture and mechanical-engineering programmes remain a particular strength, a direct legacy of its origins as a shipbuilding school serving China's inland shipbuilding industry along the Yangtze. As a public vocational undergraduate university rather than a Project 985/211 or Double First-Class institution, it focuses on applied engineering and technical education rather than research-intensive academic programmes. The university currently serves mainly domestic students and does not yet advertise a dedicated international-admissions track, though its engineering programmes are taught in Chinese.
