📖 About the university

Zhejiang Chinese Medical University is a public university in Hangzhou whose origins go back to June 1953, when it opened as the Zhejiang Provincial School for Advanced Studies in Chinese Medicine; it became Zhejiang College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1959 and took its present name in February 2006. The university moved as a whole to Binwen Road in Hangzhou's Binjiang higher-education park in March 2000, and since the Fuchun campus opened in September 2015 it has operated across two campuses covering more than 1,500 mu, roughly 100 hectares. Traditional Chinese medicine and Chinese materia medica lead its academic profile, supported by around fifteen colleges, among them the First and Second Clinical Medical Colleges, the College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, the schools of Nursing, Stomatology and Life Sciences and the International Education College, together with a dozen research institutes. Clinical teaching is anchored in three directly affiliated hospitals, the first of which is also the Zhejiang Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, plus about a dozen further non-directly affiliated teaching hospitals. It was the first provincial university in Zhejiang to win a national key discipline, Clinical Foundations of Chinese Medicine, Chinese medicine has been included in the province's summit discipline programme, and the university awards doctoral and master's degrees and hosts postdoctoral research stations. In August 2017 it was named in the second group of key universities built by Zhejiang province, and in September of the same year it became a university jointly developed by the provincial government, the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Ministry of Education. International students are a long-standing part of campus life: the International Education College runs Chinese-language study as well as bachelor's, master's and doctoral programmes, acupuncture-moxibustion and tuina are among the most sought-after fields, provincial and university scholarships are available, and applicants to clinical master's programmes are normally expected to hold HSK level 4.
