📖 About the university
Guangzhou Vocational and Technical University, known until 2025 as Guangzhou Panyu Polytechnic, is a public institution jointly administered by the Guangzhou municipal government and the Panyu district government. It was founded in 1993 and grew into one of the very first batch of twenty-eight national demonstration higher vocational colleges designated in 2006, passing the national acceptance review in 2009 and later being named a national high-quality vocational college. In June 2025 the Ministry of Education approved its upgrade to full vocational-university status, and it enrolled its first cohort of about 470 bachelor-level students in 2025. The university runs the Qingshanhu campus in Shawan, Panyu District, together with the Yuangang campus in Tianhe District, and its grounds extend over roughly 2,067 mu of parkland-style hillside close to Guangzhou's southern new town. It teaches around twelve thousand full-time students across schools of information engineering, robotics, management, finance and trade, architectural engineering, art and design and jewellery, the last of which is one of the best-known jewellery-training programmes in southern China. Its motto is 'learn in order to apply', and its close ties to the manufacturing, logistics and design industries of the Pearl River Delta give graduates a strong employment record in Guangdong.

🌆 About Guangzhou
Guangzhou is the capital of Guangdong province and a historic trading port on the Pearl River, long serving as China's gateway to the world. With a metropolitan population of around 19 million, it is one of the country's largest and most commercially dynamic cities, home to a substantial international community. The climate is humid subtropical, bringing long, hot, humid summers and short, mild winters with little cold. Landmarks range from the soaring Canton Tower to the intricate Chen Clan Ancestral Hall, the colonial-era Shamian Island, and Yuexiu Park with its Five Rams statue. Guangzhou is the heartland of Cantonese cuisine, celebrated for delicate dim sum, wonton noodles, roast goose, and tea culture. An enormous metro system, Baiyun International Airport, and high-speed rail make it a major hub linking Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and the whole Pearl River Delta. For an international student, Guangzhou offers a cosmopolitan, business-oriented environment, warm weather, excellent food, and one of the largest foreign populations in China.
