📖 About the university
Xi'an Information Vocational University is a private university in the Chang'an district of Xi'an, Shaanxi province, founded in 1992 as Shaanxi Electronic Science and Technology Vocational College; the college moved to its current campus site in 2005 and, in May 2019, the Ministry of Education approved its upgrade to a full vocational-bachelor's institution under its present name. Its origins in electronics education continue to shape its academic focus, with programmes concentrated in electronic information engineering, computer science, communication engineering, business management and art and design. The university's motto, "virtue and self-strengthening, innovation and dedication," reflects its practical, career-oriented approach, and it currently enrolls roughly 8,000 students taught by close to 600 faculty members on a campus of about 800 mu. As a private vocational-bachelor's university it is not part of the Project 985, Project 211 or Double First-Class programmes, functioning instead as one of a wave of applied technology-focused institutions upgraded across Shaanxi and other provinces since 2019 as part of China's expansion of vocational higher education.
The university's location in Chang'an district places it within the broader university district south of central Xi'an, alongside many of the city's other higher-education institutions, giving students access to a dense academic and technology environment. Its three-decade history as an electronics-focused vocational school gives it a longer institutional track record in applied technology training than many of China's most recently created vocational universities. At present it enrolls primarily domestic students preparing for technical careers in electronics, computing and communications and does not advertise a dedicated Chinese-language programme for international applicants. Its steady, three-decade evolution from a small electronics vocational college into a full vocational-bachelor's university illustrates the broader transformation taking place across China's applied higher-education sector.
