Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) is a public research university headquartered in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, founded in 1924 by the revolutionary leader Sun Yat-sen, after whom it is named. It is included in Project 985, Project 211, and the Double First-Class initiative, and it is the leading comprehensive university in southern China. SYSU is particularly strong in medicine through its Zhongshan School of Medicine, as well as in the life sciences, marine sciences, chemistry, physics, and business. Its wide disciplinary range and extensive network of affiliated hospitals underpin a substantial research enterprise.
The university operates several campuses across the Pearl River Delta, including in Guangzhou, Zhuhai, and Shenzhen, giving students access to one of China's most dynamic and internationally connected economic regions. SYSU maintains broad international partnerships and hosts a large international student community. International applicants can study the Chinese language and prepare for the HSK, and the university offers many degree programs, including English-taught options at the graduate level and in fields such as medicine and business. It suits academically strong, internationally minded students, particularly those interested in medicine, the life and marine sciences, or business.

🌆 About Guangzhou
Guangzhou is the capital of Guangdong province and a historic trading port on the Pearl River, long serving as China's gateway to the world. With a metropolitan population of around 19 million, it is one of the country's largest and most commercially dynamic cities, home to a substantial international community. The climate is humid subtropical, bringing long, hot, humid summers and short, mild winters with little cold. Landmarks range from the soaring Canton Tower to the intricate Chen Clan Ancestral Hall, the colonial-era Shamian Island, and Yuexiu Park with its Five Rams statue. Guangzhou is the heartland of Cantonese cuisine, celebrated for delicate dim sum, wonton noodles, roast goose, and tea culture. An enormous metro system, Baiyun International Airport, and high-speed rail make it a major hub linking Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and the whole Pearl River Delta. For an international student, Guangzhou offers a cosmopolitan, business-oriented environment, warm weather, excellent food, and one of the largest foreign populations in China.
