📖 About the university

Yulin University is a public university in Yulin, the northernmost prefecture-level city of Shaanxi province, on the edge of the Mu Us sandy land. Its history begins in 1923 with the founding of the Shaanxi Provincial Fourth Normal School, one of the earliest modern schools in northern Shaanxi. In 2003 the former Yulin Higher Vocational College was upgraded to bachelor's degree-granting status and renamed Yulin College, and in January 2022 its bid to become a university passed the Ministry of Education's expert examination and was written into the national 14th Five-Year Plan for university establishment, the only bachelor's institution in Shaanxi selected. The Ministry of Education formally approved the renaming to Yulin University on 19 March 2026. Construction of a new Science and Innovation New City campus began in May 2022 on 183.33 mu with 160,000 square metres of building space, completed for use from July 2024. Reflecting Yulin's position at the centre of China's largest coal, natural gas and salt reserves, the university's strongest disciplines are chemical engineering, energy and power engineering, mining engineering and applied chemistry, and it works closely with the region's energy and chemical industry.
