📖 About the university

Shanxi Vocational University of Engineering Science and Technology is a public undergraduate-level vocational university in Yuci district of Jinzhong, the city that adjoins the provincial capital Taiyuan in central Shanxi. It began in March 2001 as the Business College of Shanxi University, a large private independent college, and took its present form on 18 December 2020, when the Ministry of Education approved combining the resources of that college with the Shanxi Transportation Vocational and Technical College and the Shanxi Architecture Vocational and Technical College to create a public vocational university administered by the Shanxi provincial government. The merger deliberately paired the business college's accounting, management, economics, languages, arts and design programmes with the transportation and construction colleges' engineering tracks, so the university now spans civil and construction engineering, road and transport engineering, information technology and a broad commerce portfolio. The campus on Wenhua Street in Yuci covers about 1,000 mu, and with roughly 31,400 students and over 1,700 staff it is one of the largest of China's new vocational universities. Its motto joins knowledge with action and virtue with talent. Teaching is in Chinese and enrolment is domestic, but the school matters to the province as a pipeline of applied engineers for Shanxi's construction and transport sectors.
