Shigatse has no metro. Taxis and local buses link the station with the town centre and the nearby Tashilhunpo Monastery.
Opened 16 August 2014 after four years of construction across terrain 3,600-4,000 m high, the Lhasa–Shigatse line runs 253 km as an extension of the Qinghai–Tibet railway. Trains cover the 248 km to Lhasa in about 2.5 hours at a minimum 120 km/h; two train pairs run daily.

To Shigatse Peace Airport (RKZ): no rail link; a taxi covers the roughly 47 km in about 50 minutes to an hour.
