🧭
To & from the city centre
Shaoshan has no metro. Take a taxi or short bus ride to the memorial area; planners deliberately kept a roughly 5 km buffer between the station and Mao Zedong's birthplace site.
💡
Traveller notes
Opened 28 December 1967 as a branch line to Mao Zedong's birthplace. Regular passenger service ended in 2017 as roads and the newer Shaoshan South high-speed station took over most visitor traffic, but since 2021 it has been revived to run themed 'red tourism' and student study-tour excursion trains from cities across Hunan.
🚌 Buses & cost to the city centre
🆓 Free shuttleNo standing free shuttle; visitors arriving on group excursion trains usually have transport included in the tour package.
🚕 Taxi costThe distance to the memorial site is short; use Didi or a taxi waiting at the station.
