Opened on 30 September 2014, Nanxiong Station is the first stop the Ganzhou–Shaoguan railway makes after crossing from Jiangxi into Guangdong; the single-track electrified line has a conventional 160 km/h design speed, so travel here is by regular trains rather than true high-speed EMUs. The station sits in Nanxiong's newer North City District rather than the old town center.
