Yingkou West Mosque (today known simply as Yingkou Mosque) was founded in 1865 during the Tongzhi era of the Qing dynasty and is counted among China's hundred most famous mosques. By 1900 it had expanded to include five main halls, rear halls, pavilions, a main gate, and a dedicated women's prayer area, covering a total of 4,800 square meters. It is the only mosque in Liaoning Province built in a distinctive Arabic architectural style, and together with Yingkou East Mosque (built 1906) serves the city's Muslim community.
