📜 About & history
The Yanghang Mosque was first built in 1899 by Uzbek merchants in old Dihua (Urumqi) and is widely known as the Tatar Mosque because the local Tatar community worshipped there in large numbers. In 1919 it was rebuilt and enlarged with funds from the Russian-run Deho trading house (德和洋行), which gave it the name 'Yanghang' (foreign trading house) Mosque. Unusually for the region it was built in a European architectural idiom rather than a Central Asian one. After renovation it covers roughly 3,000 square metres and serves as a major worship centre for Urumqi's Uyghur, Kazakh, Tatar and Uzbek Muslims.

🚇 How to reach the mosque
On Shengli Road in Tianshan District; several city bus routes pass along Shengli Road / Jiefang South Road — confirm current numbers locally.
From the city centre move into the southern Muslim quarter of Tianshan District along Shengli Road; the European-style facade distinguishes it.
In the Tianshan District old town, a short taxi ride from the downtown core and People's Square.
