Tianmu North Mosque, in Tianmu Village of Beichen District, was founded in 1404 (the 2nd year of the Yongle reign) and is regarded as the oldest mosque in Tianjin. Built in Chinese palace style, it comprises a prayer hall, teaching halls, a reception hall and ablution rooms, covering about 4,956 square metres with a 1,000-square-metre main hall that seats over a thousand worshippers. It was burned to the ground by retreating troops in 1948 and rebuilt from 1949; the main hall was rebuilt again in 1992 and the complex expanded, with the works completed in 1995 at a cost of over seven million yuan. Tianmu Village is a historic Hui settlement along the Grand Canal.

The mosque holds the five daily prayers and the Friday Jumu'ah prayer, with the two Eids gathering the whole village community and visitors.

🚇 How to reach the mosque
Reachable by Beichen District city buses to the Tianmu Village area; alight near the village and walk to the north side where the mosque stands.
Head to Tianmu Village in Beichen District, a long-established Hui community. The North Mosque is Tianjin's oldest and welcomes Muslim visitors, with plentiful halal food in the village.
Tianmu Village is on the north side of Tianjin near Beichen District; a taxi from the city centre reaches the mosque in roughly 20–30 minutes.
