The Tianjin Great Mosque in the city's northwest corner (Xibeijiao), Hongqiao District, has been a major Islamic centre since the early Qing dynasty, first built in 1644 and substantially expanded around 1801. Rebuilt and enlarged several times over the following centuries, it now covers about 5,000 square metres with a building area of roughly 2,200 square metres. Its architecture is a distinctive fusion of Chinese palace-style timber halls with Islamic decoration, and it holds a celebrated collection of more than 60 plaques, couplets and Quranic carvings in both Chinese and Arabic. It is a Tianjin municipal-level protected cultural heritage site. Over a thousand Muslims still gather to worship here each week, making it the historic heart of Tianjin's Hui community.
🕌 Prayer & visiting
Open for the five daily prayers and Friday Jumu'ah; wudu facilities on site; modest dress required, headscarf for women. The prayer hall holds over a thousand people and is busiest on Fridays; as a heritage site, photograph respectfully and avoid disturbing worshippers.

🚇 How to reach the mosque
- Line 1 Xibeijiao （西北角）
Take metro Line 1 to Xibeijiao station and walk north about 500 metres to the mosque; several city buses also serve the Xibeijiao / Hongqiao area.
From Tianjin Railway Station take metro to a Line 1 interchange and ride to Xibeijiao, roughly 25-35 minutes; from Tianjin West high-speed rail station it is about 10-15 minutes by taxi.
About 10-15 minutes by taxi from central Tianjin (Heping/Nankai) to the northwest corner, or a short metro ride on Line 1 to Xibeijiao.
The mosque sits in a historic Hui neighbourhood with many halal (qingzhen) eateries nearby; it is one of northern China's finest surviving traditional-style mosques. Chinese taxi phrase: 请带我去天津清真大寺
