📜 About & history

Tianditai Mosque in Nanguan, Kaifeng, dates from before 1874 (the jiaxu year of the Qing Tongzhi era) and is one of the city's well-known mosques. In 1907, as construction of the Longhai Railway brought trade to the area, Wang Zeng, manager of the Qingquan bathhouse, and others bought land on Nanguan Donghou Street and built the mosque to serve scattered Hui traders and workers. It was occupied and damaged during the Cultural Revolution, when its prayer hall collapsed; restoration began in 1983, and an ethnic guesthouse was opened to fund the mosque. It now has a three-bay prayer hall with a porch, two ablution rooms and a scripture hall.
