📜 About & history

Shuinanguan Mosque, in Shuinanguan Village, Taihang Subdistrict, Qinyang, was built in the Yuan dynasty under the Muslim general Ismail (Hesimaili). Flooded and repaired several times in the Ming and Qing, damaged in the Cultural Revolution, it was restored by villagers in 1992-1995. The complex is 35 m wide and 150 m deep with over 120 rooms on 5,250 square metres; its classical prayer hall ends in a niche hall modelled on the Forbidden City's corner towers. More than 20 Yuan, Ming and Qing steles survive, notably the Shahada stele carved in 1239 in Persian-style Arabic script, which was listed as a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level in 2013.
