Shayang Mosque

沙洋清真寺
📍 Jingmen · Shayang County 🏛️ 1889

📜 About & history

Shayang Mosque was founded in 1889 (15th year of the Guangxu era) when an imam surnamed Wang raised funds for three thatched rooms. Rebuilt in 1911 and then washed away by floods, it was rebuilt in brick and tile, with 300 square metres of floor space, in 1946 at the initiative of Ma Yinwu. After 1949 it was occupied by state bodies; in 1992 it was relocated with compensation when a shopping centre expanded, and in 2005 the county government bought its present premises to serve as the mosque and its self-support base.
