Nanmenhe Mosque stands in the centre of Nanmenhe Village in Xincheng, Lintan County, the seat of the old Taozhou prefecture. It backs onto the old city wall and faces the Nanmen River, covering about 3 mu. Xincheng is a small town of over 10,000 people; Hui make up 90% of Nanmenhe's 200-plus households, about 1,100 people in all.
