The Nanguan Grand Mosque, also called Gongnanmen or Nanshaomen Mosque, is one of the six great mosques of Ming–Qing Lanzhou, first built in 1376 during the Ming Hongwu reign near the old south gate. Over the centuries it trained many well-known imams and scholars. The traditional palace-style mosque was closed and demolished in 1958, and after religious policy was restored the community raised 380,000 yuan to rebuild it, with the new hall built between April 1988 and October 1989. It stands in the busy commercial heart of the city on Jiuquan Road.
🕌 Prayer & visiting
Five daily prayers and Friday Jumu'ah (midday) are observed; wudu facilities are on site. Dress modestly, cover shoulders and knees (headscarf for women), and remove shoes at the prayer hall. Visitors should be quiet and avoid crossing in front of people praying.

🚇 How to reach the mosque
- Line 1 Dongfanghong Square （东方红广场站）
Many city buses stop at Nanguan Shizi (南关什字) on Jiuquan/Qingyang Road, a short walk from the mosque; ask the driver for the Nanguan Shizi stop.
A short 10-minute walk or taxi ride from the Xiguan Hui quarter, following Zhangye Road east then Jiuquan Road south to Nanguan.
It is in the downtown core itself, just south of Nanguan Shizi; from Dongfanghong Square walk west about 5–10 minutes or take one stop on Metro Line 1.
One of Lanzhou's oldest and most historic congregations, surrounded by shops and halal eateries. Friday can be crowded. Taxi phrase: 请带我去南关清真大寺。
