Lijiang Mosque's history dates back to the reign of the Qianlong Emperor (1736-1795) of the Qing dynasty, reflecting Lijiang's historical role as a key stop on trade and cultural exchange routes in southwest China. The mosque was rebuilt in 1985 at just over 60 square meters, then underwent major expansion and renovation in 2008, increasing its size to over 600 square meters. Located on Yuyuan Road in Gucheng (Old Town) District, it is the only mosque within the developed area of Lijiang Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The five daily prayers and weekly Friday prayer are held, with large numbers of worshippers gathering during Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.

There is no dedicated Arab quarter in Lijiang, but the mosque welcomes Muslim visitors from within China and abroad amid the old town's heavy tourist traffic.
The mosque is near the UNESCO-listed Lijiang Old Town, a short walk or taxi ride from the city center.
The mosque blends traditional Chinese exterior architecture with classic Islamic interior elements such as geometric patterns and Arabic calligraphy, making it a distinctive cultural stop within an Old Town tour.
