Leshan Mosque was originally built in the seventh year of the Guangxu era (c. 1881) of the Qing dynasty, at the confluence of the Minjiang, Qingyi, and Dadu rivers, and was relocated in March 2013 to Tuanshan Street in Shizhong District, central Leshan. Today the mosque includes a main hall and guest and dining facilities, and the Leshan Islamic Association was established in 2022 to promote Islamic education and activities in the city's mosques. The mosque is also noted as a landmark in the historic Luocheng Ancient Town in Leshan's Jiawei County, alongside the traditional 'Liangting' boat-shaped street.

The five daily prayers and weekly Friday prayer are held, serving the Hui community of Leshan, a city near the famous Leshan Giant Buddha.

City buses serve Tuanshan Street in Shizhong District, central Leshan.
There is no Arab quarter in Leshan; the mosque serves the local Hui population and welcomes Muslim visitors touring the Leshan Giant Buddha.
The mosque is in central Leshan's Shizhong District, a reasonable taxi ride from the Leshan Giant Buddha site.
A mosque visit can be combined with a tour of the UNESCO World Heritage Leshan Giant Buddha.
