The Huihui Ancient Mosque stands in Huihui Village, the historic Muslim settlement of the former Yanglan area now in Tianya District, Sanya. It was first built in 1470, the sixth year of the Chenghua reign of the Ming dynasty, serving the descendants of Muslims who arrived by sea from Champa (in present-day Vietnam) between the Song and Yuan eras. The original brick mosque was later rebuilt in reinforced concrete in an octagonal form; after damage it was rebuilt in 1982 and enlarged in 1986 with a HK$300,000 donation from Hong Kong Muslims. It now covers about 2.9 mu with a floor area of roughly 900 square metres, was listed as a Sanya municipal protected relic in 1990, and houses the Sanya Islamic Association. (Note: Haikou, Hainan's capital, has no established formal mosque — the province's Muslim life is centred on Sanya's Huihui and Huixin villages.)

🚇 How to reach the mosque
In Huihui Village, Fenghuang, near the Sanya Phoenix International Airport; local minibuses and taxis serve the Huihui/Huixin villages.
The Huihui and Huixin villages form Sanya's Muslim quarter with many halal restaurants; ask for the ancient mosque (清真古寺) in Huihui Village.
Northwest of central Sanya toward the airport; head to Huihui Village in Fenghuang, Tianya District.
