📜 About & history

Huangyuan County Mosque, also called the Huangyuan Dongguan Mosque, is on Wan'an Street in the county town of Huangyuan, Qinghai. Its founding date is not recorded; tradition places it between the Qing Yongzheng and Xianfeng eras. The original mosque was burned in 1865 and later demolished in the wars of the 1880s and of 1929; after moving to its present site in 1932 it gained a prayer hall modelled on a Ming palace hall and a wooden call-to-prayer tower, which was destroyed in the Cultural Revolution. Closed in 1958, it rebuilt the tower in Arab style in 1982 and was approved to reopen in 1983. Its congregation of about 2,500 is mainly Hui and Salar.
