He County Great Mosque on Nan Street in He County was founded at the start of the Ming dynasty (1368), fell into ruin in 1525 and was rebuilt in 1837 under the Qing. It has a prayer hall with north and south lecture halls, and an Islamic primary school was opened in its eastern court in 1905. Covering 1,500 square metres, it has been repaired several times since 1994 and, after a full renovation in 2006, became the main Islamic venue of the Chaohu area.
