📜 About & history
Founded in the Ming Wanli era (1573), the Hejie Mosque is the earliest large-scale mosque in Nanyang and the most influential mosque in southwestern Henan. Built and expanded over some 250 years, it acquired a distinctive 「front palace, rear courtyard」 (qian gong hou yuan) layout combining traditional Chinese palace architecture with a Mecca-oriented rectangular prayer hall. It is a Nanyang municipal protected cultural relic.

Nanyang has no metro. City buses to the old-city Hejie / Renmin Road area; alight near the mosque.
Muslim traders in Nanyang gather in the Hui neighbourhood around this mosque and the old-city halal market; the mosque sits at its centre.
In the historic riverside old city near the Baihe (White River); about 3 km from Nanyang railway station, 10-15 min by taxi.
Halal beef/lamb restaurants line the surrounding streets. A landmark of Nanyang's old riverside quarter.
