📜 About & history
The Haiyuan Grand Mosque is the oldest mosque in the Xihaigu region of southern Ningxia, with a history of over 400 years dating from the Wanli reign of the Ming dynasty. It occupies about 4,100 square metres with roughly 1,470 square metres of buildings, blending Chinese palace-style architecture with Arab decorative art. The complex has several prayer and side halls of brick-and-timber construction, plus a collection of religious books and ancient elm trees.

Five daily prayers and Friday Jumu'ah are held; the imam preaches in Chinese. Ablution rooms are on site. It is the main religious centre for Muslims of Haiyuan County.

🚇 How to reach the mosque
Haiyuan county buses stop near the old town centre; the mosque is a short walk into Dasi Alley.
Haiyuan is a remote county with no established Arab trader community; access is via Zhongwei or Guyuan.
In the northwest of Haiyuan county town centre on Dasi Alley; a few minutes by taxi from anywhere in the small county seat.
Abundant halal (qingzhen) beef, lamb and noodle restaurants in the county town. Local language is Chinese; almost the entire population is Hui Muslim.
