📜 About & history
Dongsi Mosque was rebuilt in 1447 during the Ming dynasty on a site whose origins go back to 1346 under the Yuan. In 1450 the Jingtai Emperor bestowed the name 'Qingzhen Si' on its gateway. Built facing east in classic Ming style, its grand prayer hall carries carved Qur'anic verses on three arches and holds more than 500 worshippers. Today it serves as the headquarters of the Beijing Islamic Association and preserves rare hand-copied Qur'ans.

Open for the five daily prayers and the Friday Jumu'ah gathering around midday; ablution facilities on site. As the seat of the Beijing Islamic Association it is an active place of worship; visitors should dress modestly and respect prayer times.

City buses stop along Dongsi South Street; alight at the 'Dongsi' area stops, a short walk from the mosque.
Close to the Wangfujing shopping area and central hotels; from the Sanlitun embassy/CBD district it is about 15-20 minutes by taxi.
About 10 minutes by taxi northeast of the Forbidden City / Wangfujing; or take Metro Line 5 or Line 6 to Dongsi Station and walk south.
A quieter, more local mosque than Niujie, central and easy to combine with Forbidden City sightseeing. Dress modestly. Taxi phrase: 请带我去东四清真寺
