Chongqing's principal mosque originated in the Ming Wanli era (1590s) as the 'West Mosque' near today's Zhongxing Road, one of three historic mosques in the city. Bombed during the Anti-Japanese War, it was rebuilt in 1943 as the 'Provisional Capital Mosque', and for decades occupied the top floors of the Muslim Building at Zhongxing Road in downtown Yuzhong District. From 2010 the congregation was relocated, and a large new mosque beside the Hui cemetery on Chuangye Avenue in Jiulongpo District opened on 14 August 2020. Covering over 40 mu and able to hold around 2,000 worshippers, it is one of southwest China's most modern mosques.

🚇 How to reach the mosque
The mosque is on the western edge of Jiulongpo near the Hui cemetery and is best reached by taxi; local buses run along Chuangye Avenue.
About 20–30 min by taxi from Chongqing West Railway Station.
About 30–40 min by taxi from Jiefangbei / Yuzhong city centre.
