Chai Wan Mosque

柴湾清真寺
📍 Hong Kong · Eastern District 🏛️ 1963

📜 About & history

Chai Wan Mosque, also called the Cape Collinson Mosque, is on Cape Collinson Road, Chai Wan, in Hong Kong's Eastern District and was the fifth mosque built in Hong Kong. To compensate for a cemetery and small mosque at Ho Man Tin cleared in 1963, the government granted land at Cape Collinson for a cemetery and a small mosque, which opened on 4 August 1963 and was first used for funeral prayers. As more Muslim families settled in Chai Wan, daily prayers began to be held there. The Incorporated Trustees of the Islamic Community Fund of Hong Kong renovated the whole building in 2005, and it was graded a Grade III historic building on 17 May 2010.
