The Beytulla Mosque is the largest mosque in Yining (Ghulja), capital of the Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture. First built in 1773, it was the first mosque in Ili funded directly by the Qing government. Its gate, modelled on ancient Chinese city gates with dougong brackets and flying eaves, survives as a nationally protected relic while the main halls were rebuilt on the original site.
