The Baida Mosque (Aq Masjid, 'White Mosque') began in 1924 when a Uyghur from Kashgar rented a small building in the south-gate district of Dihua (Urumqi) and set it up as a prayer room. A Uyghur merchant then led local residents in fundraising to build a fuller mosque on the same site, producing the Baida Mosque. In 1984 its roughly 10-metre gate tower was rebuilt with Uyghur-style ornament, and it is regarded as one of the better-preserved Uyghur mosques in the city. It anchors the historic Muslim quarter along Jiefang South Road.

🚇 How to reach the mosque
On Jiefang South Road in the south-gate quarter; city buses run along Jiefang South Road — confirm route numbers locally.
From the city centre follow Jiefang South Road south into the old south-gate Muslim quarter; look for the tall Uyghur-style gate tower.
In the southern part of Tianshan District, a short taxi ride south of the downtown core.
