Consumer Rights Protection Law · Yalla China

中华人民共和国消费者权益保护法 / Consumer Rights Protection Law

📝 Overview

The law protects consumers' rights to accurate information and sound goods, and generally grants a 7-day no-reason return for online purchases. It also provides ways to complain and seek remedies for fake or defective goods.

This is general information only, not legal advice. For your specific case, consult a licensed lawyer.

📜 The law text / key provisions

Key practical points:
• 7-day return right: you can usually return most online purchases within 7 days with no reason (with exceptions such as perishable or custom-made goods).
• Right to accurate information: you are entitled to truthful details about a product, its price and features, without being misled.
• Defective or fake goods: you may ask for repair, replacement or refund, and this can include compensation in cases of fraud.
• Keep receipts, invoices and chat records as evidence for any dispute.
• Complaint channels: usually start with the shopping platform itself, then you can escalate to the authorities.
• The 12315 hotline and the market regulator: an official channel for filing consumer complaints.
• Read the seller's return and warranty policy before buying so you know your rights precisely.

💬 Practical reading

💬 This is a general reading/opinion for orientation — not the official legal text nor legal advice.
In your daily life and online shopping in China, remember you have clear rights: accurate information, sound goods, and usually a 7-day return right for most online purchases. If you receive a fake or defective product, first contact the seller or platform and keep all your evidence, and if the problem is not solved you can turn to the 12315 hotline or the market regulator. Read the return policy before buying to avoid surprises. This is a general orientation, not formal legal advice.

🚔 Illustrative example / related case

Illustrative, general educational examples — not real specific facts and not legal advice; for awareness only. For an actual situation, consult a licensed lawyer.
A fake product from an online shop… and you got your refund
The situation: A consumer bought a product from an online shop, and on arrival it turned out to be fake or entirely different from the description. He had kept the chat with the seller, the product page and the payment receipt.

Applicable law: Under the Consumer Rights Protection Law, for many online purchases the consumer has the right to return within seven days without reason, and to require the seller and the platform to deal with fake or non-conforming goods, with recourse to the official 12315 complaint line.

Typical outcome: The consumer first filed a complaint through the platform with the evidence attached, and when that stalled he called 12315, obtaining a refund. Someone who had kept no written evidence found it much harder to prove his right.
🎓 The lesson / takeaway: Lesson: Know your consumer rights and always keep evidence (seller chat, product page, payment receipt, product photos). When a problem arises, complain through the platform first, and if it is not resolved use the 12315 line. Written evidence and the 7-day return right are your tools to get your money back.
