Overstaying Your Visa — Every Day Has a Price · Yalla China

🤝 Governing law: 出境入境管理法 / Exit and Entry Administration Law

You forgot to renew your stay for a few days — what's the penalty?

Illustrative, general educational examples — not real specific facts and not legal advice; for awareness only. For an actual situation, consult a licensed lawyer.
The situation: A foreign student's visa expires while he's buried in exams, and he stays ten days without renewing before he notices.

Applicable law: The Exit and Entry Administration Law penalizes unlawful stay with a fine for each day overstayed (up to a total cap), and longer or repeated cases can bring detention and deportation, possibly an entry ban for a period. The responsibility falls on the foreigner even if the cause was oversight. Apply to renew before expiry, and see the exit-entry administration at once upon any delay.

Outcome: The student paid a fine for the overstayed days and regularized his status, but the incident was recorded and may affect later applications.

🎓 The lesson / takeaway

Lesson: Your visa's expiry date is yours alone to watch. Set a reminder weeks ahead, and never let a single day pass after it lapses.
