Drugs — One Red Line, No Way Back · Yalla China

🤝 Governing law: 禁毒法 / Narcotics Control Law

Is it enough that you didn't touch drugs if you were present where they were used?

Illustrative, general educational examples — not real specific facts and not legal advice; for awareness only. For an actual situation, consult a licensed lawyer.
The situation: A foreign resident accepts an invitation to a party with new acquaintances, and during a routine check a small quantity of a narcotic is found on the premises, with signs of use on some of those present.

Applicable law: China's Narcotics Control Law follows a strict zero-tolerance policy, penalising possession, use and drug-related presence, and foreigners are subject to additional testing and procedures.

Typical outcome: Administrative or criminal detention depending on the case, usually followed by deportation and a multi-year entry ban, with the incident entered on record.

🎓 The lesson / takeaway

Lesson: Drugs in China are a single red line with no exceptions, and merely being where drugs are used can implicate you. Never touch drugs and leave immediately any place or company connected to them. If you find yourself in such a setting, walk away before you become part of the case.
