Established in 1957 on a 57,600 sqm site with 110,000 sqm of floor space, it is the principal teaching hospital of Baotou Medical College. It sits in Kundulun District, Baotou's largest western industrial and residential area where most hotels and company offices are concentrated. Together with Baotou Central Hospital it is the reference centre for complex cases in western Inner Mongolia. Its health-screening centre is useful for residents who need a medical report for a residence permit.
