Yongchuan
Yongchuan is a district in western Chongqing Municipality on the upper Yangtze basin, about 63 kilometers from the city's central Yuzhong District, with a settlement history stretching back some 1,200 years. It has become one of Chongqing's most important centers for higher education, home to Chongqing University of Arts and Sciences and several vocational colleges spread across a growing university town, alongside a developing manufacturing and logistics economy. The district is nationally famous as the home of Yongchuan douchi, a distinctive mold-fermented black bean seasoning that has flavored Sichuan cuisine for centuries and is still produced using traditional methods. Its riverside Songji Ancient Town preserves a thousand-year-old streetscape and a traditional nine-bowl banquet, while the sprawling bamboo and tea forests of Chashan Zhuhai once served as a filming location for the movie House of Flying Daggers. Visitors also come for the Ronghui hot springs and the pear orchards of Huangguashan. With its own high-speed rail stop on the Chengdu-Chongqing line, Yongchuan is a short ride from both major cities.
