In Shanxi province

Xinzhou in northern Shanxi is home to Wutai Mountain, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of China's four sacred Buddhist mountains. Wutai Mountain has over 50 temples and is a major pilgrimage destination. The area has rich coal and energy resources, and Yanmen Pass is a famous ancient military fortress.
