Ningbo

Ningbo is a major port city in Zhejiang province and one of the world's busiest cargo ports, with a long history as a trading gateway on the East China Sea. With a metropolitan population of around nine million, it pairs a wealthy modern economy with a deep merchant heritage. The climate is humid subtropical, with hot, humid summers and cool, damp winters. Landmarks include the Tianyi Pavilion, one of the oldest surviving private libraries in Asia, the atmospheric Old Bund, the mountain monastery of Tiantong Temple, and scenic Dongqian Lake. Ningbo cuisine is famously seafood-forward and often salty-fresh, with steamed yellow croaker and sweet tangyuan rice balls among its signatures. A growing metro network, Lishe International Airport, and high-speed rail connect it to Hangzhou and Shanghai within a couple of hours.
