Nanping

In Fujian province

Nanping is a large mountainous prefecture in northern Fujian bordering Jiangxi and Zhejiang, watered by the headstreams of the Min River. Its crown jewel is Mount Wuyi, a UNESCO World Heritage site prized for both its Danxia scenery and its Neo-Confucian heritage, where the philosopher Zhu Xi taught. The region produces world-famous Wuyi rock oolong teas such as Da Hong Pao. Historic Jianyang was a center of Song-dynasty book printing and Jian ware black-glaze pottery. Tourism, tea and forestry drive the local economy.
