Nanning
Nanning is the capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and southern China's key hub for trade and diplomacy with Southeast Asia. With a metropolitan population of around eight million, it is a lush, green city on the Yong River known as the Green City for its dense subtropical vegetation. The climate is humid subtropical, with long, hot, humid summers and short, mild winters. Attractions include the forested Qingxiu Mountain, the peaceful Nanhu Lake Park, the Guangxi Nationalities Museum celebrating the region's ethnic diversity, and the old riverside town of Yangmei. Local Guangxi cuisine centers on rice noodles, with Old Friend noodles and lemon duck among its signatures. A growing metro network, Wuxu International Airport, and high-speed rail connect it to Guangzhou, Guilin, and the Vietnamese border. For an international student, Nanning offers greenery, affordable living, a strong ASEAN orientation, and a warm, easygoing southern atmosphere.
