Lingwu
Lingwu is a county-level city under Yinchuan in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, sitting on the eastern edge of the Yinchuan Plain along the Yellow River. Its economy rests on the vast Ningdong Energy and Chemical Base, one of China's largest coal-and-coal-chemical production hubs, alongside irrigated agriculture famous for the Lingwu long jujube, a nationally protected geographical-indication fruit prized since the Tang dynasty. The city hosts no university of its own, with students typically continuing on to Ningxia University or Ningxia Medical University in Yinchuan, but it runs vocational schools tied to the coal-chemical industry. Lingwu is best known among archaeologists and travelers for the Shuidonggou site, where stone tools dating back roughly 30,000 years to the Old Stone Age were unearthed, making it one of the earliest-known sites of human habitation in China.
