In Jiangsu province

Kunshan is a county-level city administered by Suzhou, sitting midway between Suzhou and Shanghai and consistently ranked the wealthiest county-level economy in China. Its export electronics and IT-manufacturing base, driven heavily by Taiwanese investment, powers a per-capita GDP among the nation's highest. Kunshan is the birthplace of Kunqu opera, one of the oldest surviving forms of Chinese theatre and a UNESCO Masterpiece of Intangible Heritage. The picturesque canal town of Zhouzhuang, often called the finest water town in China, lies within its borders. Bowls of aozao noodles and the braised Wansan pork trotter are beloved local specialties.
